Useful Hints for the HP Omnibook XE3-GF

• You expect more from the touchpad under GNU/Linux? Get the Synaptics driver!
• You want a region-free DVD drive? My notebook contains a MATSHITA UJDA710 combo drive that I was able to unlock using a patch from www.rpc1.org
• Want to get the internal modem to work? Check out the ESS2838/2839 driver.
• GNU/Linux support for the One-Touch keys can by activated with the Omnibook kernel extension.
• Annoying hard drive clicking? A firmware upgrade from Dell transformed my HITACHI DK23CA-30 into a quiet drive.
• Defective < and > keys? The keyboard controller is switched to US. There is a tool from HP support to change the configuration (look at the bottom of the page).
